Three communication studies graduate students recently returned from Lisbon, Portugal after studying abroad in the School of Communication Studies’ Global Scholar Exchange program during the Fall of 2015.  Samyak Moktan, a second-year global communication studies graduate student, came to ºÚÁÏÉç in 2014 from Kathmandu, Nepal after obtaining her undergraduate degree in mass communication and journalism from Purbanchal University in Nepal. Project Advancing Wellness and Resilience Education (AWARE) Kent, a new three-year program at ºÚÁÏÉç, is offering a Mental Health First Aid course to ºÚÁÏÉç students, faculty, and staff. The course is an evidence-based training that teaches people to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders.  The eight-hour course is free, and participants earn 1500 FLASHperks (a rewards program that offers prizes) for completing the course. David Smeltzer and Oscar Rocha successfully lead a faculty lead study abroad experience in Costa Rica.  This course included BSCI and JMC students who visited several locations in Costa Rica, including a dry forest, rainforest, cloud forest, and a coastal region.
